This Saturday, October 5th marks the beginning of Albuquerque’s International Balloon Fiesta. Driving to Balloon Fiesta Park usually results in traffic congestion and long lines for parking at and near the park. The cost of admission to the event is $8 per person. If you opt to take advantage of the Park and Ride service being provided by APS school buses be sure to buy your tickets the day before. The cost is $12 per person when purchased in advance and $20 per person when purchased at the Park and Ride locations (both prices include the cost of admission to the event).
The best option, in my opinion, is to ride your bike to Balloon Fiesta Park. Bike ABQ and the NM Touring Society will be proving a free Bike Valet Service. M and I did it last year, and it took us about 40 minutes to leisurely ride from downtown to the park. The Bike Valet provides a safe and secure location to store your bike and no bike lock is necessary The bike valet will be available at all Morning (5:30am to 10:30 am) and Evening Sessions (5:00pm to 9:00 pm). For more information about the bike valet go here.
Be sure to dress warmly and in layers. It will be cold in the early morning and late evening hours (this is true whether you ride or drive).
Don’t forget to wear a helmet.
Riding before dawn and after dusk requires using headlights and taillights.
Be courteous to other riders and pedestrians along the trail.
